This year at UWOCASO, we have been inspired by your contributions and support to the fight against cancer in Uganda.  We value your involvement as a Donor, Fundraiser, Adviser, volunteer, Partner /Network or a Guest to our functions; we want to thank you for your generosity throughout 2016.

\n

Your support makes a big difference, making it possible for UWOCASO to reach the communities and connect directly with women fighting cancer and their families. With your support we have built capacity, educated communities and touched lives.

\n

Together we have achieved fantastic results;-

\n

We reached over five million people with awareness messages via Radio, TVs, news papers, face to face community outreaches, social media and distributed thousands of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials including a thousand copies of UWOCASO’s survivorship magazine.

\n

In July 2016, With Mandela Group of Companies (City Tyres, City Oil and Café Javas), UWOCASO launched a breast cancer awareness campaign on the importance of screening, early diagnosis,  timely and quality treatment. This is in response to UN call to action to address the growing breast cancer burden. To date we have had eleven (11) radio talk shows and call in programs on four popular stations in the country.

\n

With AFRON, Uganda Cancer Institute, St.Kizito Matany Hospital and other partners,   One thousand nine hundred and ten (1,910) women received free breast and cervical cancer screening in Kampala and Karamoja.

\n

Thousands benefited from our patient support and counseling programs through hospital and home visits, monthly survivors’, patients’ and family welfare meetings and peer support. We distributed one hundred prosthesis (artificial breasts), two hundred Mastectomy bras and ten lymphedema sleeves, Thanks to volunteers at Cancer Council Queensland Australia and SUSA Vertriebs- GmbH +Co Germany

\n

With Financial support from Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Pfizer under the SPARC Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) challenge grant, we interviewed over four hundred participants to evaluate and better understand the clinical and Psychological needs and challenges of  Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) patients in Uganda. With this project hundreds of julietta casino online MBC patients and their families have benefited from our patients and family group therapy program.

\n

UWOCASO is proud of the continued growth in terms of size that our organization has achieved this year. Due to increase in new projects, in order to meet the demands, in January 2016 UWOCASO received the first Chief Executive Officer Gertrude Nakigudde. We registered fifty (50) new members and trained thirty seven (37) community educators and District focal persons from the four major regions of Uganda, sixteen (16) research Assistants in research principles, ethics and human subject protection.

\n

We are thrilled to be among the beneficiaries of the two year American Cancer Society’s Strengthening Organisations for a United Response against the Cancer Epidemic (SOURCE) program.  The program’s approach of Assessment, Technical Assistance and Training has prepared UWOCASO to design new strategies, structures and policies that are required for a functional organization.

\n

We have led an unprecedented collaboration with the private sector including Uganda Golf club, Ambrosoli International School, students of Kampala International School Uganda(KISU), Mandela Group of companies, Holland Dairy and  musicians among others to raise funds for cancer awareness campaigns.

\n

UWOCASO continued to participate in National and International meetings. An abstract was accepted and presented during the 2016 UICC’s World Cancer Congress in Paris France. Additionally, UWOCASO benefited and enjoyed   the CEO’s exclusive program and Masters Course that came with the congress.  In April 2016, three (3) members participated in Women Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network (WECAN) regional summit in Nairobi Kenya.  In partnership with Uganda Cancer Society and other stakeholders UWOCASO organized World Cancer day celebration on February 4th 2016.

\n

We cannot afford to rest!! We are happy to announce our 2017- 2019 Goal: To contribute to the reduction of female cancer burden in Uganda.  You are an important part of this Goal.

\n

Right now due the generosity of City Tyres , City Oil and  Café Javas every donation in UWOCASO boxes at their outlets  is matched.

\n

Thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
