During a three days Health Literacy Camp organized by Vision Group of companies, between September 22rd to 24th 2016 at Centenary Park in Kampala, UWOCASO volunteers sensitized masses about the importance of screening , early diagnosis and treatment. They demonstrated Breast Self-Examination (BSE) and distributed IEC materials to thousands who turned up.Prior to the event, UWOCASO participated in a breakfast TV interview where Gertrude educated the viewers of Bukedde TV1, the challenges women face when living with Metastatic Breast Cancer. On the TV she encouraged the population to give emotional support to Metastatic Breast Cancer patients and their families and also assist them access pain relief and other supportive services that improve their quality of life. She responded to callers that there is increased survival with early detection and if women learnt early signs through Breast self-Examination and screening. In addition, the camp involved several partners which included; Uganda Non-Communicable Disease Alliance, Reproductive Health Uganda among others educated the population on the importance of prevention and treatment of different diseases.After the camp there was increased number of women seeking for cancer information and supportive services at UWOCASO offices.
